Dr. Victor Amaya
President and Executive Director
Dr. Victor Amaya believes that data has the power to transform communities by creating opportunities, breaking down inequities, and amplifying the voices of those most affected by systemic barriers. His mission is to ensure that data is not just available, but accessible, actionable, and empowering—so that individuals and organizations can make informed decisions that lead to meaningful change.
To achieve this, Dr. Amaya leads with a deep commitment to education, leadership development, and community-driven solutions. As the President & Executive Director of Data You Can Use, he drives strategies that democratize data, ensuring it serves as a tool for equity and progress. With a background as an educator, instructional coach, and school leader, he has spent his career focused on success measures and impactful outcomes, ensuring data is not just collected, but used to drive systemic improvements.
Dr. Amaya’s journey began in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, before moving to Milwaukee at age twelve—a transition that shaped his passion for leadership and advocacy. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, followed by a Master of Science in Administrative Leadership. His dedication to lifelong learning culminated in a Doctorate in Leadership in the Advancement of Learning, along a School Superintendent’s license from Cardinal Stritch University.
His leadership extends beyond Data You Can Use. He has served as the Managing Director of Impact and Interim Executive Director at City Year Milwaukee, and he actively supports community initiatives as the Founding Director of Techqueria – Milwaukee Chapter. Additionally, he is an Executive Board Member for the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership and serves as President of both the Southside Organizing Center and Your Move MKE.
Outside of his work, he finds joy in books, fitness, travel, and embracing the cultural richness of Milwaukee with his family.
